Editor, Gazette Journal: A repetitive loop describes getting stuck in an ongoing cycle of behavior, thinking, or habits without making progress. People get trapped in these loops by using the same ineffective approaches to solve problems. What are the problems we face? High costs for fuel, electricity and groceries; stagnant wages, healthcare tied to an employer or paid out-of-pocket, clean air, clean water, healthy food, corporate overreach. We have learned to be helpless, which may be why so many eligible voters view elections as “my vote won’t matter.” Repeating this behavior becomes a habit, which reinforces the feeling of helplessness. Seeking safety in the familiar is human. Fear of the unknown is a documented and valid reason why people stay in abusive relationships.
