Fireworks displays Saturday, Sunday

To celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday, York-town and Mathews will be hosting firework shows. Yorktown will kick off the festivities on Saturday, July 4, while Mathews will keep the patriotic energy alive with a performance on Sunday, July 5. The historic shores of Yorktown will be the site for the opening act for this weekend of celebration. On Saturday, July 4, a day of patriotic parades and historical readings will end with its annual Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular. The grand display is scheduled to launch at 9:15 p.m. and admission to the event is free and is held at the Yorktown Waterfront. The display over the York River can also be viewed from the Gloucester Point Beach Park. On Sunday, July 5, Mathews County will host its own celebration at Williams Wharf Landing. The firework show will begin at 9:30 and the gates at Williams Wharf Landing open at 7:30 p.m., giving families plenty of time to set up lawn chairs and enjoy the scenic river.
