Reward offered in suspected arson case

Paul and Shari Pruitt of Mathews are offering a reward of $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever caused the fire at their Plantation Road home on Friday, June 12. The fire is being investigated as a case of burglary and arson after deputies discovered the home had been forcibly entered and vandalized. Paul Pruitt, speaking at his office at Pruitt Automotive in Gloucester, said that on June 12, the day of the incident, he said he and his wife were at a birthday party at Nick’s in Gloucester, and they returned home in separate vehicles, with Shari Pruitt about 10 minutes ahead of her husband. “I got halfway home, and she called screaming that the house was on fire,” said Paul Pruitt. “I put on my emergency flashers and drove home as fast as I could without wrecking the vehicle.
