It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Lynn Gibson, 68, of Gloucester, Virginia, who passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Born on January 15, 1958 in Gloucester to Robert and Shirley Hudgins, Cheryl graduated from Gloucester High School in 1976 and went on to have a long career as an insurance agent.
In 1987, she married the love of her life, Frederick A. Gibson. They raised their children from combined marriages, in a warm, open-hearted home. Cheryl loved music, sports, and everything British. She was fiercely loyal and loving toward family and friends, with a compassion that was felt by all who met her. Her children remember a home life enriched by her love and support for them at each stage of their lives. A devout Christian, she was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church for over 30 years.
Cheryl was an animal lover and, with her husband, brought many dogs and cats into their family throughout their marriage.
Cheryl had been battling cancer for several years. Throughout her illness, she persevered with a grace and bravery that endeared her to the doctors and nurses who supported her.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Frederick A. Gibson; her children, Zachary Gibson, Sarah App, Lorelei Nowers, and Frederick Steed Gibson, and her brother, Ronnie Dean Hudgins. Grandchildren include Alyssa Thompson, Mikael Thompson, Nick Thompson, Kai Nowers, Esmae Nowers, Kelan Nowers, Tristan App, Victoria App, Isabella Gibson, and Samantha Gibson; and great-grandchildren, Aurora Lirette and Emerson Howard.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandmother, Amelia Harris; father, Robert Hudgins, and mother, Shirley Hudgins.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. The inurnment will be private.
