CHARLOTTE JENKINS WEST

Charlotte Jenkins West, age 87, of Hayes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver, and friend, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born June 9, 1939, Charlotte lived a life defined by compassion and strength. With her husband, Carl Raye West, she built a family rooted in love and lived a life dedicated to caring for others. She was the proud mother of five children and two treasured sons-in-law, Tony West, Laura Bailey (Jim), Kim West, Jonathan West, and Janet Rothenberger (Blain). The daughter of Marcella and Johnny Jenkins, she carried their values of compassion and hard work throughout her life. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Charlotte was known for her generous heart, her love of cooking, and her willingness to help anyone in need. As a caregiver, she touched countless lives. Whether preparing a meal for others, offering a helping hand, or providing comfort and encouragement, Charlotte made everyone feel cared for and valued. Her legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Besides her children, she leaves behind grandchildren, Sarah Anne West and Jon West (Sarah Grace), as well as her “little lump of gold,” great-grandchild, Carl David West, who brought her immense happiness; a sister, Marcella Medeiros; sister- and brothers-in-law, Dale DeFeo (Bob) and Bill Kuhlmann; nieces, Daphne Bonniville, Margaret Tarsovich (Paul), and Patricia Steele (Bill), and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Johnny Jenkins Jr.; granddaughter, Hayley Rothenberger, and sister-in-law, Pat Kulmann.

Charlotte will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.

The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 6-7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Bill West, Pastor Mike Lawhorn, and Pastor Bill Steele on Thursday, June 18, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Hayes, where Charlotte was a lifelong member. Burial will be in Rosewell Memorial Gardens, and a reception will immediately follow at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. 23072-4419.
