The Mathews High School soccer program concluded its postseason run this week following a series of regional tournament matches. While both teams won their quarterfinal matches last Thursday at home, both the MHS boys and girls got the chance to host regional semifinals on Tuesday, but the outcome was not the same for either squad. Regional quarterfinals The Mathews teams were dominant last Thursday, starting with the Lady Devils, who defeated Middlesex by a 3-1 margin, driven by an opening goal from Kristen Hudgins (second team All Tidewater Region) and two goals by Meredith Salvadori (Tidewater District’s Player of the Year). Later that night, the MHS boys took on King and Queen, shutting out the Tigers, 2-0, with goals from Elias Hidalgo (first team All-District) and Chance Higginbotham.
