The Gwynn’s Island Civic League Foundation recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Mathews High School graduating seniors. Ellie Congrove and Morgan Stearns received the scholarships based on their academic and community achievements throughout their high school careers as well as on their families’ connections to Gwynn’s Island. Congrove is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, participates in soccer and indoor track, has worked at The Hatchery and Mathews Yacht Club, volunteered at a farm in Ecuador, and taken Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment classes through Rappahannock Community College. She will attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the fall, majoring in Nursing.
