Gloucester High School senior AmraRose Powell, an active junior member of Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Station 3 in Hayes. The blood drive was held in memory of Captain David Thurston, who was an active member of AVFR. Thirty-six people donated blood at the blood drive. There were also donations being collected for the raffle. Donations for the raffle were all donated items from local businesses. Business who donated included Hudgins Automotive GMC, Eggheads, Scoot’s, Taylor’s Do it Center, Bridgewater’s Salon, Split Enz Salon, Phillips Energy, Chesapeake Marine Training Center, Powell & Co. Salon, Smokey’s Tree and Electrical Service, Williamsburg Jewelers, Chick-fil-A Gloucester, Dollar Tree White Marsh, and Northern Neck Popcorn Bag.
