Editor, Gazette-Journal: Attempting to deflect criticism of her performance as Border Czar, Harris continues to claim that Republicans killed the “bipartisan” Senate Border Act at Trump’s direction. “Bipartisan” only because a single Republican (Lankford, Okla.) was on the committee; although he fully supports the Act with 22 bullet points on his website. Among them were: No amnesty, period; no free work permits handed out at the border; more ICE agents deportations and Border Patrol agents for arrests; faster asylum hearings and deportation; $650 million for border wall construction; added more technology at the border to interdict drugs and illegal crossings; raised the standard to prove an asylum request; deported anyone with a criminal record seeking asylum now, not years later; deported any alien who could have resettled in another country on the way to the United States; created a new Title 42-like authority to shut down and deport everyone when the border is being overrun.
