Beginning Monday evening, weather permitting, a new temporary traffic pattern will be in place as construction continues on a Virginia Department of Transportation project to improve safety at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 216 (Guinea Road) in Hayes. During phase one of the project, which began in early March, crews constructed new curb, gutter and sidewalk. Phase two will begin Monday, and will take approximately two months to complete. Crews will remove the existing median along Guinea Road and build a new median and pedestrian island. Crews will also extend drainage facilities and repave the road in the project work zone.
