99 set to graduate Saturday from MHS

Ninety-nine Mathews High School students are scheduled to receive their diplomas during Saturday’s 76th commencement ceremony, which will begin at 2 p.m. in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

Leading this year’s class will be valedictorian Caleb Selph and salutatorian Sophia Bandurco. Selph ended his career at MHS with a 4.39 grade point average. He is the son of Joy Johnston of Cobbs Creek and George Selph of Lancaster. Bandurco, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oleg Bandurco of North, compiled a 4.32 GPA. Both will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.

Saturday’s ceremony will begin with the playing of “Pomp and Circumstance” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” by the MHS Symphonic Band. Following that, senior class president Kelly Adams will welcome parents and other guests and present the class gift to the school.
