9 starters return on GHS softball team

The Gloucester High School varsity Dukes return to the softball diamond on Tuesday when they face Woodside at 6 p.m. in the Stoney Run Sports Complex. The Dukes return nine starters and 11 players from last year’s roster.

Juniors Bridget Motley behind the plate and Kirsten Green in the circle both return. Each was a first-team, all-conference selection last season. Transfer sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Smith will handle the pitching duties with Green, and both will see time at first base. 

Gloucester should be strong up the middle as shortstop Courtney Hall returns along with second baseman Tori Mielnik. Both girls are juniors. Also returning is sophomore third baseman Laura Tobin. 

Senior centerfielder Jessica Hogge will anchor the outfield where she will be joined by sophomores Malaika Rilee in left field and Makenna Keyes in right field.  Junior Emma West, a three-year starter, will be the designated hitter and could see playing time at first base and in the o...
