9 Mathews churches open doors for June 13 historical tour

Nine churches in Mathews County will open their doors for the Historical Open Church Tour, to be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. next Saturday, June 13. The tour is a benefit for the up-and-coming Mathews County Historical Society Museum, planned for the second floor of the Mathews Visitor and Information Center.

Tickets must be purchased in advance at Cattail’s, Hudgins Pharmacy, Flowers from the Heart, Chesapeake Bank, and the Visitor Center. Tickets will not be sold at the churches, a release said. Each ticket is $12, with children under 13 admitted free.

All of the churches on tour date from 1875 or earlier. They include Antioch Baptist Church, Susan; Central United Methodist, Mathews; Christ Episcopal, Mathews; Ebenezer Baptist, Cobbs Creek; Emmaus Baptist, North; First Baptist, Mathews; Mathews Baptist, Hudgins; Trinity Episcopal, Foster, and Zion Baptist, Cardinal.
