$85,000+ awarded in Main Street grants

The Main Street Preservation Trust has announced recipients of its 2016 grant awards. Executive director Jenny Crittenden said nine applicants were approved for cash awards out of the 13 applications received.

Requests for funds totaled over $153,000, with MSPT making awards of over $85,000 in façade, interior and merchandising grants for 2016, Crittenden said.

Each business that received an award must match the grant award, Crittenden said, and some paid more than the grant amount.

Façade improvements can include windows, doors, awnings, landscaping, exterior painting, exterior signage, site work, and roofs where they are seen from Main Street. Interior improvements could include interior painting, flooring, lighting, plumbing and electrical upgrades, while merchandising grants help merchants to utilize interior design services, interior signage, and special effects improvements in their businesses.
