85 golfers take part in Knights of Columbus tournament

The Dave Marchant Memorial Virginia Veterans Tournament was held Friday at the Piankatank River Golf Club, Hartfield, hosted by the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Boddie Assembly 3349 and returning after a COVID break in 2020. It is now named for Marchant, who was head of the Assembly at the time of his death a year ago.

The field of 85 golfers stood for a moment of silence followed by the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner, received an invocation from Assembly Chaplain Fr. Jerry Kaggwa, then headed out for the competition. Afterwards all gathered at the Steamboat Restaurant for beverages, dinner, story-swapping and presentation of awards.

“Today we were blessed to bring back the tournament in memory of our fallen leader Dave Marchant,” tournament director Al Langer said. “It was a huge success due to strong player turnout, loyal sponsors and donors, a great golf course, and devoted volunteers.
