800+ athletes compete at GHS meet

The eighth annual Gloucester High School Invitational Track and Field Meet had all the necessary elements for a great event. There were over 20 teams and 800 athletes competing in the best weather conditions on Saturday at GHS. 

Colonial Forge produced both the girls’ and boys’ champions while Hickory High School was the girls’ runner-up and Grafton was the boys’ runner-up. The GHS boys finished at eighth overall and the Gloucester girls were 11th.

Mathews High School also competed, finishing 15th overall for the boys and 17th for the girls.

In results for the GHS varsity girls, Ruby Williams was sixth in the 800 meter race in 2:30.01 and Alyssa Lass was fifth in the 1600 in 5:45.08. Ainsley Miller cleared 8’6” in the pole vault to place second. 

For the junior varsity Gloucester girls, Tatiyana Pollard won the 100 meter dash in 14.11, second in the 200 in 28.85 and third in the 400 in 1:06.74.
