63 participate in Gwynn’s Island race

A total of 63 registrants participated in Saturday’s Gwynn’s Island Festival Race.

Normally held in conjunction with the Gwynn’s Island Festival, this year’s race went on despite the annual festival being canceled for 2021. The race included options for runners and cyclists—a four-mile road run and 10-mile bicycle ride, as well as a fun run.

Top finishers in the four-mile run were Nathaniel Peterson for the men (23:25) and Sarah Sanders for the women (32:54.5). Winners of the bike ride were Steve Shaw (41:19) and Kristin Morse (35:40).

Doug Paredes (1:08.12) and Kathryn Miles (1:16.48) were the first-place male and female winners of the duathlon (both the run and biking events). Eight-year-old Ellie Sowers won the 1-mile fun run with a time of 11:41.
