Twelve students from Mathews High School traveled on Jan. 10 to Hampton to audition for the VBODA District VIII Honor Band. Six of these students qualified for the band, which will rehearse and present a concert on Feb. 5-7 at Woodside High School.

Students who qualified are Hunter Owens, First Symphonic Contra-Alto Clarinet; Toby Eskins, Seventh Symphonic Trumpet; Cate Christopher, 10th Symphonic Trumpet; Jordan Sadeg, First Concert Clarinet; Ivar Golden, Seventh Concert Clarinet; and Keegan Walls, Sixth Junior High Band Trumpet.

Owens is also now eligible to audition for All-State Band at JMU on Feb. 28.
