Dozens of runners, residents and visitors alike, took part Saturday in the Gwynn’s Island Festival races sponsored for the fourth year by the Virginia Tidewater Trailrunners.
The event included a one-mile, 5K and 8K runs.
Overall winner in the 8K, which had 19 competitors, was James Cole running in the 30-39 group, covering the course in 32.44.l. Second among male runners was Samuel Lunsford, 43:13.1, and Danny Weatherly, 44:12.0.
Age group winners, male, after Cole, were Lunsford, 30-39; Weatherly, 40-49; Steve Amarillo, 50-59; Jim Gullo, 60-69; and Stuart Gibbs, 70-79.
Sandy Lauren, running in the 30-39 category, was top female, running in 45:10.0, followed by Susan Orr, 46:15, and Helen Worthington, 46:39.9. Age group winners, female, after Lauren were Leslie Coster, 30-39; Amanda Halfpenny, 40-49; Sonni Gittelman, 50-59; and Susan Orr, 60-69.
Russell Reed led the 5K course, competing with other males 20-29 and finishing first among more than 60 runners in 18:34.9. Follow...
