Children were playing games and frolicking on the Mathews High School football field on Saturday night in anticipation of the annual fireworks show. Unfortunately for those who filled the school on Saturday night, a line of approaching storms caused the show’s cancellation. Many returned the following evening to watch the fireworks show on Sunday, which was held in spite of another evening of unsettled weather. Saturday’s fireworks were also cancelled in Yorktown; unlike Mathews, there was no rain date for that show. ...
