48 take part in 10th annual Wharf to Wharf Swim

Forty-eight swimmers took part in Sunday’s 10th annual L. Wayne Hudgins Wharf to Wharf Swim, with participants swimming nearly a mile in open water on the East River from Williams Wharf to Hicks Wharf and back.

The event was a success in every way, according to Mathews Land Conservancy vice president Tim Ulsaker, with “fabulous conditions, intrepid swimmers, generous sponsors, tireless volunteers, delicious refreshments and enthusiastic spectators.”

Swimmers ranged in age from 9-year-old Annalise Morse to 65-year-old Karen Bennett who flew in from California especially for this event, which she had first participated in 10 years ago. Each of the 48 swimmers was expected to raise a minimum of $100 to participate.

Top fundraisers this year were Mimi Ulsaker with over $6,000, the Hudgins family with $800+, newlyweds Oliver and Ginny Ulsaker with $600+, Molly Broderson and Nancy Miller.
