$44.5 million in RWRH improvements planned; to be financed by bonds

Riverside Health System plans to spend $44,550,000 for improvements at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester. Expansion and renovation of the emergency department and operating room are included, said Peter Glagola, senior director/brand management and public relations for Riverside. In addition, renovation of patient rooms is planned here.

The Newport News Industrial Development Authority recently approved $125 million in tax-exempt bonds that will help pay for a dozen improvement projects for the Riverside Health System, including the renovations in the Gloucester hospital. Glagola said July 1 that  no timeline for the hospital improvements here has been announced.

The bonds will also help pay for four projects at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Glagola said, as well as renovations at Warwick Forest and the Gardens at Warwick Forest, all in Newport News. Riverside will use some of the bonds for updating its emergency medical records.
