428 students graduate from RCC

Officials with Rappahannock Community College bestowed 537 degrees and certificates on the 428 members of the Class of 2011 during its 39th commencement ceremony last month on the front lawn of the school’s Warsaw campus.

"I could not be more proud of our graduates," said RCC president Elizabeth Crowther as she welcomed the attendees.

Associate professor of history John Paden carried the ceremonial mace. The Rev. W. Scott Dillard, rector of Wicomico Parish Church in Wicomico Church, Northumberland County, pronounced the invocation and benediction. Glenn DuBois, chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, was the keynote speaker of the evening.

"To know where you go, you have to embrace where you come from," said class representative Mercedes Pierce, who is the first member of her family to earn a college degree.
