4 MHS wrestlers crowned district champs

Four Mathews High School wrestlers went undefeated and were crowned district champs following last Wednesday’s Tidewater District Tournament, which was held at MHS.

Mathews went 1-1 in the evening’s tri-meet, beating King William by a 42-24 margin and falling to Middlesex, 54-30.Alexis Deagle (106 lbs.), Jacob Love (113 lbs.), Cody Deagle (132 lbs.) and Noah Wright (145 lbs.) each won both matches to earn the title of Tidewater District champions.

Mathews wrestlers will travel to Cumberland High School on Saturday to compete 1A/1B Super Regional Wrestling Tournament. The Virginia High School League Class 1 State Tournament will be held on Feb. 18-19 at the Salem Civic Center. Mathews finished seventh overall in last year’s state tournament.
