4 MHS baseball players earn post-season honors

Four Mathews High School varsity baseball players earned post-season honors, as the Conference 42, Tidewater District and All-Region teams were recently announced.

Making the All-Conference first team were sophomore Tyler Moore as a pitcher; junior Jalen Matthews at third base and utility player Brent Smith, a sophomore. Smith and Moore also won second-team honors—Smith for his pitching skills, Moore as an outfielder.

All-District first-team selections for Mathews were Moore (pitcher), Smith (shortstop) and utility player Ethan Armistead, a junior. Smith, Matthews and Moore got second-team accolades—Smith for pitching, Matthews at first base and Moore in the outfield.

While Mathews had no first-team All-Region selections, Armistead (outfield), Moore (pitcher) and Smith (utility) made second team, while Matthews got honorable mention at third base. ...
