4 GHS softball standouts playing on college diamonds

Two former Gloucester High School softball players will start their collegiate seasons in the coming weeks while two other former Dukes began play this month.

Shortstop Andi Booker (Class of 2020) began her freshman season at Bryant & Stratton with two hits and an RBI in an 11-10 loss in extra innings to Meridian Community College in Pensacola, Florida, last weekend. The Bobcats lost twice to Meridian CC and twice to Pensacola State College.

Booker and the Bobcats are slated to play Surry Community College on Feb. 26 and Patrick Henry Community College on Feb. 27. Both games will be doubleheaders and played at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach.

Winthrop Eagles’ freshman pitcher Mackenzie Smith (Class of 2020) traveled to Miami, Florida, Feb. 12-14 for the Feldburg’s Invitational.
