4 GHS athletes qualify for Junior Olympics

The Gloucester High School Track, Field and Cross Country Club hosted over 930 athletes for the 2016 AAU Region 5 National Qualifier Track and Field Championships Friday through Sunday. 

During the event, GHSTFXC Club members Joshua Shackleford, Makala White, Aaron Shipe and Christopher Potter qualified for the 2016 AAU Junior Olympics that will be held July 27 through Aug. 6 in Houston, Texas. 

Competing in the 15-16 age group, Shackleford won the 1,500 meter race with a new personal record time of 4:15.24 and Shipe was third in the 800 meter with a new PR time of 2:04.62.

Competing in the 13-14 age group, White was second in the 3,000 meter run with a new PR time of 13:25.24 and Potter was sixth in the 1,500 in 4:56.55.  Also for the local club in the 15-16 division, Emma Cirillo was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 21’7” and Colton Spence was seventh in the 1,500 in 5:01.32.
