300 wins

Pat Moughon, coach of Mathews High School’s successful volleyball program since 1999, was honored at the start of the Oct. 18 Mathews-Middlesex game, recognized for having surpassed the 300-win milestone earlier this season. To date, Moughon has compiled a record of 314 wins and 73 losses, with no losing seasons. Her teams have claimed the district/conference championship for the past 14 years running, along with nine regional championships, two state runners-up and impressive back-to-back state titles in 2011 and 2012. Moughon has also seen eight of her players compete at the collegiate level. Additionally, Moughon has been instrumental in the growth of volleyball in the Tidewater District and East Region as she was the first girls’ volleyball coach at Middlesex High School while working hand-in-hand with Mathews to get its program off the ground.
