Gloucester’s portion of Historic Garden Week in Virginia takes place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Tickets are on sale and box lunches may be ordered in advance.
Open this year are the pre-Revolutionary War home Little England at Bena, and two modern homes, Sweetgrass and Belvinham Quay, in the southern part of Gloucester, along with Abingdon Episcopal Church at White Marsh, which is tour headquarters.
Advance tickets are $35 and may be purchased through April 24 (cash or check only) at Angelwing Stationers, Brent & Becky’s, and Little England Mercantile in Gloucester and at the Mathews Visitor Center. They may also be purchased online at va.gardenweek.org. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
After April 24, tickets are $45 and available only at Abingdon Church by credit card, cash or check. No single-house admissions are being sold.
Pre-ordered box lunches at $12 may be ordered from Nuttall Country Store (804-693-3067) and from VA Blue Crab (804-694-7990) by April 19. In addition, Gumbeau’s Catering will sell soups, sandwiches, cheese and salads from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. tour day at Brent and Becky’s, where an art show and tour of the gardens are planned.
The parish house at Abingdon Church will be open for lunchtime seating and the Abingdon organist will be playing the J.W. Walker tracker organ in the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
