25 named to MHS Hall of Fame

Nineteen athletes, five contributors and one coach have been selected as members of the Mathews High School Hall of Fame Class of 2020—the school’s first HOF induction was held in 2019.

The inductees were to be recognized at a ceremony at the school this past Friday. “Because of the present situation, that program has been postponed until a later date,” said assistant Athletic Director Al DeWitt.

DeWitt added that the school hopes to hold an induction ceremony once the restrictions over public gatherings in response to the coronavirus have been lifted. That public presentation will be held in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

InducteesThe coach on this year’s list is Matt Lawson (MHS Class of 1990), who served as the Blue Devils’ head football coach from 1998 to 2003.
