23 teams attend GHS track invitational

The Gloucester High School Invitational Track and Field Meet returned on Saturday to the school’s newly resurfaced facility, marking the first major home meet since 2013. Twenty-three teams and more than 800 student athletes attended the event, and the weather conditions were ideal for track and field.

In team results, the Nansemond River girls took first place, followed by Oscar Smith in second and Tabb in third. The Tabb boys edged Granby by two points to take first and Oscar Smith was third.

The Gloucester varsity girls were 14th overall, with junior Mia Robinson winning the pole vault and junior Jasmin Scott fourth in the 400 meter dash.

The junior varsity GHS girls took second in the 400m relay with runners Allison Ferreira, Ruby Williams, Cassie Evans and Kaylynn Glockner. The 800m relay team of Ashley Pierro, Evans, Ferreira and Chynna Penird won its race as did the 1600m relay team of Pierro, Erin Bristow, Chasity Lass and Alissa Adickes.
