23 boats take part in Mathews Rotary Rockfish Tournament

Good weather prevailed and 23 boats competed for a total of $4,000 in prize money in the past weekend’s 14th annual Mathews Rotary Club Rockfish Tournament, which was based at the Morningstar Marinas on Milford Haven.

Funds raised at the event support educational and health programs within Mathews County. The boat captains and their anglers enjoyed great weather on both days with temperatures in the 60s and relatively calm seas on Saturday and Sunday.

Contrary to last year’s heavy fog and cold temperatures, this year’s improved weather brought good fortune to the anglers as almost every boat landed fish on Saturday, with the heaviest fish weighing in at 13 lbs. With just under a pound in total weight separating the top three boats on Saturday, Sunday proved to be a pivotal day for winning the tournament.
