229 brave chilly weather at 8K/3K

The 8K and 3K races held Saturday to benefit the Gloucester County Public Schools Education Foundation attracted 264 entries with 229 runners/walkers completing the courses in the chilly wind. Both races began and ended at Gloucester High School. 

Charles Love of Virginia and Karen Kovacs of Hayes were the top overall male and female winners in the 8K event with times of 30:36 and 36:45, respectively. 

Ryan Doupe of Newport News was second overall and David Lockard of Hampton of third. For the women, Karla Havens of Plainview was second overall and Susan Hagel of Norfolk was third. 

The first place winners by age groups for men and women were as follows: 

14 and under—Joshua Shackelford of Hayes in 34:49 and Whitney Robins of Hayes in 46:54;

15- 19—Ryan Petty of Gloucester in 37:59 and Blair South of Gloucester in 51:45; 

20-24—Stuart Cooke of Hampton in 39:29;

25-29—Pierce Larson of Hayes in 43:12 and Tara Lord of Hayes in 43:13;...
