Gloucester 4-H held its annual Junior Camp at Jamestown 4-H Educational Center June 16-20, with 208 youth and 29 teen counselors attending, according to Extension unit coordinator Krista Gustafson.

“Camp provides youth countless opportunities for learning more about themselves, their peers, and the natural world around them,” Gustafson said in a report. This learning takes place through a wide range of camp activities ands programs, all of which are designed to allow youth to “learn by doing” through hands-on participation in classes, swimming, flag ceremonies, campfire programs and other activities.

Financial assistance for needy campers was provided by the J. Edwin Treakle Foundation, Gloucester Master Gardeners Association, Abingdon Ruritan Club, Gloucester Ruritan Club, and a number of private donors, Gustafson said.
