You can add the 39th annual West Point Crab Carnival to the growing list of events that have been canceled over the past couple months due to the recent jump in COVID-19 cases.
In an announcement posted Friday on the West Point Chamber of Commerce website, the 2021 Crab Carnival Committee said that the event, which had been scheduled for Oct. 1-2, had been canceled in its entirety.
“Community leadership made a difficult decision in this, and we respect and agree that this is the correct path to take in safeguarding the well-being of our home town,” the announcement stated. “On behalf of all of us, we share a common feeling of profound disappointment about this necessary cancellation. We know Crab Carnival 2022 will emerge from this challenging moment bigger and better, and we are eager to see you all in West Point in October 2022 when we will celebrate 40 years of the world’s best celebration of crabs and community in Virginia.”
