The annual Mathews Christmas Audubon Bird Count is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015 with the count starting before light and most sectors remaining as always.
According to coordinator Joyce McKelvey, a few new participants may be added to sectors that can handle more coverage. She said those who missed last year but have a regular route and sector year after year will be assigned as before.
McKelvey said there is a need for younger people to take up where others are not able. “We are still a closed count but do want to add participants as sectors find a need,” McKelvey said.
Following the count during the tally, food, including chili, applesauce, breads and butter, etc. will be available.
