Mathews County welcomed two new LOVEworks signs at a ribbon-cutting celebration Sunday afternoon at The Hatchery on Gwynn’s Island. One of the signs was located at The Hatchery on Callis Wharf Road; the second was for a LOVEworks sign at Williams Wharf (a painting of that sign stood in for the ribbon cutting). Artist Peggy Shifflett, at left, created the Williams Wharf sign while Maria-Emilia Borja, second from left, designed the sign at The Hatchery. The project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission.
