Two new exhibits are now on display at the Rappahannock Art League Art Center in Kilmarnock. “Local Scenes, Local Themes” includes 46 works, while “New Beginnings,” which explores the concept of a fresh start, has 25 pieces. The artwork includes paintings, pastels, mixed media works, photographs, glasswork, and fiber art. “Rockfish Morning,” a watercolor by Doug Mock, won first place in the “Local Scenes, Local Themes” exhibit. Judge Heather Cockrell, art teacher at Northumberland Middle School, noted the painting’s “precise and crisp lines.” “Wheels Up,” an acrylic painting by Bob Casazza, took second place, and “Paddling the Headwaters,” an acrylic painting by Brenda Sylvia, took third place. Honorable mentions were awarded to Stephanie Brown, Patrick Derks, Mary Ellis, Richard Harmon, and Mel Neale. “Feathers,” a photo by Richard Harmon, took first place in the “New Beginnings” exhibit, noted by Cockrell for details that “add texture without distracting from the emotional focus.” Se...
