16-year-old from Hayes making a name for himself on the race track

At just 16 years of age, Atley Wiese of Hayes, is already speeding ahead on the track. Full of passion and perseverance, the teenage racecar driver is a promising young talent taking the world of racing by storm.
For as long as Wiese can remember, he has loved everything with a motor, but the main thing that got him into racing, he explained, was watching NASCAR with his grandfather, who was a big fan of the sport.
“Soon, I was starting to beg my parents for a go-kart and finally, after some persuasion and some persistence, I got my first go-kart when I was 9 years old,” said Wiese. He immediately began racing at the Hampton Roads Kart Club at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway during the 2018 season.
From go-karts at nine years old, Wiese has continued his racing at Langley Speedway, but he now sits behind the wheel of a limited late model. “It is a full-bodied stock car, it’s got a Chevrolet 604 crate motor and a Toyota Camry XSE body,” he said.
