A total of 135 runners took part in the Gwynn’s Island Raw Bar Run on April 26, a 5K race that started and finished at Callis Wharf, winding along Old Ferry Road.
For the past decade, Mathews Outdoor Club had been the sole event organizer of the Gwynn’s Island Race; MOC is now in partnership with The Hatchery Oyster Eatery and has rebranded the run.
Runners and their families celebrated post run with craft beer and an oyster raw bar, with live music by Market Street Music and food from The Hatchery food truck.
Walter Banfield was the men’s first-place winner with a time of 17:30, while Haley Uliasz, who works at VIMS’s Acuff Center for Aquaculture (an all-around oyster lover), took first place for the women, with a time of 21:32.
