Eleven Mathews High School athletes were set to compete in Wednesday’s VHSL 1A/2A state indoor track championships at Liberty University, according to MHS head coach Tony Forrest.
Five girls and six boys earned the right to represent Mathews in this competition, Forrest said.
For the girls, Sarah Taylor will compete in the girls’ high jump, long jump, 55-meter hurdles and will run a leg on the 4x400 relay team. Zoe Goodwin will compete in the long jump, triple jump and 4x400 team as well. This is the third state meet for senior Victoria Palaimo, who will compete in the high jump. Zoe Camp and Melody Smith round out the girls’ squad as members of the 4x400 relay. Taylor, a sophomore, is ranked third in the high jump and long jump events and fifth in the 55-meter hurdles.
