The Mathews Maritime Foundation has announced a matching funds campaign for the documentary film project “The Legacy of Gilbert Klingel: Man of Steel.”

Foundation spokesperson Marcy Benouameur said in a press release that a little-known environmental advocacy group, Marine Environmental Research Corporation, is offering matching funds up to $10,000 to help pay the remaining production costs for the film.

If the MMF can get $10,000 in donations between now and May 15, its goal of reaching a total of $20,000 for the film will be reached, said the release. Every donation received, no matter how big or small, will be matched until the deadline.

MERC, a nonprofit organization, is sponsoring small projects over a wide area of Hampton Roads, said the release. Though headquartered on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, it partners with other organizations from the Southside to the Peninsula and the Middle Peninsula.
