Witnesses sought in Rt. 17 reckless driving pursuit incident

The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from any witnesses that saw a reckless driver pursuit that occurred in the county on Friday afternoon.

GCSO Capt. John Schick Jr. said at about 1 p.m. Friday his office received a report of a reckless driver that originated in York County. He said his officers soon located the vehicle, a white 2016 Chevy Silverado, headed north on Route 17 in the Gloucester Point area.

Schick said the driver attempted to elude police by refusing to stop for their vehicles, driving recklessly and running into the median on several occasions during the pursuit. The truck was eventually stopped in the 5200 block of Route 17 near Rappahannock Concrete.

Schick said the driver, 52-year-old Victor Blumberg of Gloucester, was arrested and charged with a felony charge of eluding police, as well as misdemeanor charges of DUI/second offense within five years, DUI refusal, possession of marijuana, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, a...
