Thai food finds a welcoming niche in Gloucester

Combining her love for the county where she was residing with the ability to foresee what would be an asset to Gloucester, Tusnee McDaniel and her husband Kerry opened Bangkok Noi Thai Cuisine restaurant in 2008.

Tusnee, one of 10 children, is a native of Bangkok, Thailand, who married an American Air Force man. They moved to Gloucester from York County, building a home in Ware Neck in 1976. Following years of traveling in the armed forces, Kerry retired in 1974 after they came to Langley Air Force Base.

"Kerry was teaching school and one day while driving through the village, I noticed a for-sale sign on the piece of property which I now own. There was a building with lots of windows and I thought, wouldn’t that make a great restaurant for Thai foods? Plenty of light. This I said to my husband. He said, "Why do you want to do that?" I say "you never know until you try it." He said, "No one here is familiar with Thai food." I say, we’ll teach them."
