MHS girls beat GHS in tennis, 6-3

“The players on this year’s team are very close in ability and the positions are still being established. We will be strong all the way down the ladder. This is one reason this team should do very well this year.” said Coach LaDonna Crain.
In singles competition, top-seeded Jennifer Ratliff had the toughest match of the day for Mathews, losing to a very strong Ellen Stringer, 8-0. Number two, Rachel Byrd played very consistently to defeat Britni Edwards, 8-5.
Amy Collins, playing number three defeated Gretchen Wyco, 8-6, with lots of top-spin shots. At number four, Aly Collins won her match against Alysa Weakland, 8-5, by being very consistent. At number five, Morgan Sears, coming off a toe injury, easily defeated her opponent Ashleigh Koleski, 8-0. The only senior on the team, Bethany Miales, played in the six spot and dominated her match against Lizzie Bish, 8-1.
