MHS track competes at West Point meets

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams placed first and third, respectively, out of five teams competing in a meet at West Point High School on April 30.

The MHS boys compiled 117 points to win the meet, while the MHS girls scored 28 team points.

On the JV team, Melody Smith competed in the 1600m run with a time of 6:53. Sarah Taylor ran the 300m hurdles in 55.50 seconds. Cameron McDonald ran the 400m dash in 1:04.

On the girls’ team, Sarah Fitzgerald ran the 100m hurdles in 19.60 seconds and the 300m hurdles in 1:01. Victoria Palaimo jumped 4’8” in high jump. Katelynn Blake jumped 4’6” in high jump. Megan Johnson jumped 4’4” in high jump, 13’10” in long jump, and 27’3” in triple jump. Lanazia Whalen threw 48’1” in the discus and 20’4” in the shot put.

On the boys’ team, Jamir Forrest ran the 100m dash in 11.20 and jumped 18’1” in long jump. Timmothy Raphael ran the 100m dash in 12.10 and the 300m hurdles in 50.60 seconds. Antonio Smith ran the 400m dash in 58.80 and he placed first jumping 20’4” in the long jump. Blaise Mullins ran the 400m dash in 1:03. Nasir Thomas placed first in the 800m run with a time of 2:19 and he jumped 39’7” in triple jump. Brian Robinson ran the 800m run in 2:52 and the 300m hurdles in 53.50.

Cameron Stearns placed first in the 1600m run with a time of 4:57. Colin Frazier ran the 1600m in 5:47. Blake Atkins placed first in the 3200m run with a time of 12:45. Jamari Henderson placed first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.20. Henderson also ran the 300m hurdles in 47.10, jumped 5’4” in the high jump, 16’9¾” in the long jump, and 38’8½” in triple jump. Serong Rice ran the 110m hurdles in 21.10, the 300m hurdles in 51.20, and jumped 5’6” in the high jump. Caleb Thomas placed first in the high jump with a leap of 6’ even. Thomas also jumped 33’7” in the triple jump. Dayvon Whiting jumped 5’4” in the high jump. Michael Pennington threw 105’2” in the discus and 32’1” in the shot put. Tobias Fisher threw 87’9’ in the discus and 35’½” in the shot put. Joshua Monastyrly threw 84’4” in the discus and 36’4” in the shot put. The boys’ 4x400m relay team placed first with a time of 4:00.
