The last two weeks were tough ones for Gloucester High School basketball, as both Dukes teams went winless, including a pair of losses on Senior Night.

The boys’ team hosted the Denbigh Patriots on Friday, Jan. 25, and struggled to make stops defensively on the way to an 82-46 loss. The Lady Dukes did not play that night as Denbigh has been unable to field a girls’ varsity basketball team this season.

The Lady Dukes travelled on Jan. 29 to face the Bethel Bruins. Gloucester enjoyed another strong outing from Lauren Hall, who put up 15 points to lead her team. Kenna Keyes cooled off from her recent string of double-digit scoring outings, but still put up nine points.

The Lady Dukes remained competitive after a slow start saw them go down, 13-7. They come out strong defensively in the second quarter and held Bethel to seven points while scoring 12 of their own to bring the game to 20-19 at half.

Bethel came out hot shooting the ball in the third quarter, scoring 19 points to Gloucester’s six in the frame. The Dukes outscored Bethel, 13-10, in the fourth but it was not enough, as the 49-38 score went final in the Bruin victory.
