The Gloucester County School Board received only one letter from a candidate interested in the at-large seat on the board being vacated by current board chairman Jarret Lee, according to school board clerk Carol Dehoux. Lee’s term expires at the end of the year.

Dehoux said the lone candidate to express his interest in the seat by Tuesday’s deadline was Darren P. Post, who is also running unopposed for the Ware district seat on the board in November’s general election.

Post will have the opportunity to address the board at 3:30 this afternoon regarding his candidacy during the board’s retreat at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, which is open to the public. He may also introduce one or two supporters who will be allowed to speak briefly on his behalf.

The board is set to interview Post during a closed session at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the T.C. Walker Education Center. It is then expected that the board will appoint a candidate to the at-large seat following the closed session.

Lee has said that Tuesday’s school board meeting will be the last one he will attend, and the new at-large representative is expected to attend the board’s Sept. 10 regular monthly meeting. The new representative’s term will commence Sept. 10 and end Dec. 31.
