Adelle Hudgins, 12, of Cobbs Creek, competing with her 10-year-old Papillon, “Kipper,” earned their PACH (Preferred Agility Championship) rating on May 6 at the Gloucester Kennel Club.

To achieve this, the dog and handler must complete 750 points and 20 double Qs—a “Q” is a perfect qualifying score of 100, with no point deductions, according to Adelle’s mother, Jennifer Schroeder. This must be attained in both masters level classes in one day. Time limits also must be met.

Kipper and Adelle have been competing since Adelle was 7 years old and they are now nearly halfway to their second PACH championship, Schroeder said.

Last year they competed at the American Kennel Club Nationals in Perry, Georgia, having earned 600 points and seven double Qs in the year prior to qualify.

Adelle trains and belongs to Belroi Agility Club of Virginia. She has recently begun competing with her 4-year-old beagle, “Cricket.”

Last September, Adelle and Cricket competed at the Beagle Nationals where they earned high scoring Junior Handler.

Schroeder said there is no division of classes between adult and or junior rankings in agility.
