The Mathews Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2020 grants program.

The foundation offers a competitive grants program for eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and agencies providing programs or services that directly impact and improve the quality of life for Mathews residents.

The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. March 2, with awards announced in May. All details can be found online at under “Grantseekers” and “Our Grants Process.”

Grant-making is focused on investing for a healthy and thriving community, through four strategic focus areas: Educational Success—young people achieve in school, engage in their community, and are prepared for the workforce; Health and Wellness—community members are safe and healthy; Community Vibrancy—community members have access to and an appreciation for arts and cultural opportunities; and Economic Prosperity—the region’s resources are sustainable and its residents are economically stable and secure.

In 2019, the foundation awarded approximately $150,000 in competitive grants, supporting programs and services across the county. This included $22,000 through the Mathews Women’s Giving Circle with a focus on improving the lives of women and families in Mathews County.

The MCF Advisory Board oversees the competitive grants program. Grants are supported by unrestricted, field of interest and special funds.
